The Triumph 650 piston set is a quality manufactured pair of pistons, wrist pins, and circlips. Included in this kit is a complete set of matching piston rings.
The 71mm (STD) cast pistons are suitable for use in unit-construction Triumph 650 engines where a 9:1 compression ratio is specified, as well as some pre-unit applications. JCC has been a respected manufacturer of quality replacement pistons at an affordable price for many years. Top quality Hastings piston rings are also well known for their quality and correct fitment. Available in various oversizes up to +.080″.
When replacing pistons and rings, the appropriate measurements must be taken to ensure the correct fitment of the pistons and rings to the cyclinder bores. If it is determined that the cylinders require a rebore due to wear, the recommended practice is to bore the cylinders to fit the specifically provided set of pistons, factoring in a pre-determined skirt clearance. The piston rings need to be checked for fitment into the ring grooves on the pistons, as well as the end gaps in the finished cylinder bores prior to fitment.
Measurements and cylinder preparation are recommended to be carried out by a qualified technician and/or machinist. Specialized tools and skills are required for proper piston and ring replacement. Specifications for piston clearance and piston ring end gaps are listed in the factory workshop manual, subject to various Triumph service bulletins that have been issued over the years.
