Hepolite has recently added this upgraded set of high-strength forged connecting rods to their product line of high-quality engine parts for the Triumph 650 pre-unit and unit-construction 650 twin cylinder models. Suitable for fitment to the 1956-1972 models with the 1.623″ diameter journal crankshaft.
Constructed from high specification 4340 forged steel, these “H” beam rods are shot peened and supplied with wrist pin bushings and ARP 2000 high-tensile strength rod bolts. The rod eye centers are 6.5″ and the fitted wrist pin bushings are machines to .688″ ID. The rods are supplied as a matched pair.
Connecting rods are subject to a tremendous amount of stress and are a popular upgrade with performance engine builders. The forging process offers a lightweight solution to increasing strength without adding additional undesirable weight to the connecting rods. The manufacturer’s quoted rod weight is 432 grams +/- 1 gram.
The engine must be dismantled to remove the crankshaft and replace the connecting rods. This procedure is covered in the factory workshop manuals, but in many cases, this type of work is best left in the hands of a professional mechanic.
