>>TIPS FOR INSTALLATION HERE

On our 68 T120R Bonneville, there was this high-performance fender that wasn’t formed correctly to their chain. So of course, we call this fettling, but it isn’t always necessary.

This was on the 68 so it didn’t mount up exactly right that’s where this custom bracket with the rubber comes from. This whole tab is gone so now you have got water coming up your back wheel and headed up towards your engine and your electrical.

There’s water splash here, there’s no place for his chain guard and this bevel isn’t even here.  I’m thinking that the reason that happened here was because he needed to chop all this to get rid of it.

This is what actually goes on the ‘68. This is our fender from Speedwell made in England; it’s stainless polished so shiny and it looks like Chrome to me. But I know it’s not Chrome plated because they have a triple clone plated and it looks even shinier. This is the proper way to get the channel done for your brake. Here’s where the chain was running and here is the other side where the electrical box was.

If you look where the chain is running, it’s actually folded in and this makes the fender stronger all the way around. If you try to just start cutting pieces off the fender like this, you’ll end up with something like this which isn’t really that stable. It’s pretty dang flexible which doesn’t look good because eventually one of the bolts Torx is going to make it bend and you’ll be able to see it on the bike.

As you can see this has already been rolled this way it has a rolled Edge but when they take this part out, they bevel it off, but they don’t roll this edge here they just remove the metal. Then they bevel it down so it’s not sharp to cut in here it’s what we call critical deburring. They did a great job of it here. Everything else is rolled almost competition style.

For our Speedwell mudguards we show you a different way of measuring, that’s a little more accurate. Everything is listed to its part number in the book but if you need to do something custom, we’re having all the measurements done to where you can see its width, radius, height and whatever the dish of the profile is. We have all these numbers in case you want to do it to a Harley or Grieves or a BSA and we don’t have the part number but you know what it looks like.
