Generally regarded as the specified mudguard for the UK-market mid-1960s Triumph 650 models with painted fenders and 19″ front wheels, this example was also original equipment on the 1967 T100R US-spec model. The stud for mounting the lower stay is present.
The genuine UK-made Speedwell mudguard is supplied unfinished in mild steel, ready for paint preparation. There are drillings for the front and middle stays, while the lower stay mounting stud is fixed to a welded bracket on the underside of the guard.
The finished mudguard is affixed to the fork with stays. Pre-drilled mudguards may require some slight fitting adjustments to align the fender stay tabs with the holes in the fender. The lower stud is fixed and centrally mounted.
Once the fitment is confirmed with the stays mounted on the fender to the fork, the assembly can be disassembled and the finish applied to the raw steel mudguard.
Note: there were 3 types of front mudguards fitted to the twins and triples listed above: plain edge, lipped edge and rolled edge. This is the lipped edge variety.
