Speedwell mudguards are the most authentic reproduction fenders available on the market. This front mudguard is chrome plated and features 6 mounting tabs, as specified for the US market BSA twins, excluding the Spitfire and Firebird models. The 1969 and 1970 Lightning models used a looped single front fender stay, although this mudguard can be fitted with to the A65L models when the individual stays are used.
The pressed nose front mudguard features 6 mounting tabs and measures 28″ across from tip to tip. Manufactured in the UK to original specifications, this fender is correct for the US market Royal Star, Thunderbolt, and Lightning models from 1966 through 1968, although can be fitted to the other BSA twin models through 1970 when the correct stays are fitted. The mudguard follows the radius of the original 19″ front wheel.
The mudguard offers protection from the elements and serves as a fender brace, stabilizing the front fork assembly during cornering and hard braking.
The mudguard is fitted with individual stays on each side with the lower stays connecting to the tabs on the fork lowers, and the forward stays fitted to a bracket on the fork lower. The middle upright stays are flat brackets mounted behind the fork lowers.Â
Please note: Due to varying bans on the use of hexavalent chrome in the chroming process, this item will have varying appearance different than OEM standards. Chromers are frequently using trivalent in their processes. “It’s just not the same color. Hexavalent has that clear blue sheen, but trivalent is more grayish and smoky. Trivalent will not replace the look of hexavalent.”
