This kit is comprised of the necessary parts to fit the choke to your Amal 900 series Concentric carburetor. While many twin-carburetor models will readily start and idle without the chokes present, it is recommended to employ the choke system to cold-start and maintain a steady idle with the single carburetor models such as the BSA Thunderbolt and Triumph Tiger models. The kit includes the air slide, guide sleeve, and spring.
The new production genuine Amal choke parts are manufactured to original exacting specifications in the UK. Suitable for fitment to 928, 930, and 932 carburetors from 1968 to present.
The air slide is housed in a channel of the throttle valve and is cable-operated by a hand lever. When cable tension is released, the slide drops in the carburetor’s mixing chamber, effectively blocking the inlet of air. Once the engine has run long enough to approach operating temperatures, the lever is adjusted to pull the air slide up and out of the way of the inlet tract, restoring the optimal air/fuel mixture for normal running.
The carburetor top cap must be removed to install the choke components in the throttle valve. The cable is inserted through the top cap, then the guide sleeve. The spring is placed over the sleeve and the cable is pulled through the slot on the air slide far enough to allow the cable nipple to be captured by the recess on the bottom of the slide.
