The choke return spring is an important part of the choke system on Amal Concentric carburetors as it provides stability for the air slide and contributes to smooth operation of the choke system in the 900 series carburetors, including the 928, 930, and 932 carburetors.
This new production genuine Amal choke spring is manufactured to original exacting specifications in the UK.
The choke spring fits over the guide sleeve and positively maintains the position of the air slide when tension on the cable is released to lower the slide into position prior to cold starting the engine. When the choke lever is positioned to pull the air slide up and out of the way of the inlet tract, the spring provides tension to prevent interference with the throttle valve as the throttle is operated.
The carburetor top cap must be removed to install the choke components in the throttle valve. The cable is inserted through the top cap, then the guide sleeve. The spring is placed over the sleeve and the cable is pulled through the slot on the air slide far enough to allow the cable nipple to be captured by the recess on the bottom of the slide.
Function
- The choke spring serves a crucial role in the carburetor’s choke system:
- It provides tension to the choke mechanism, ensuring the choke valve returns to its open position when released.
- It helps maintain consistent pressure on the choke air slide, contributing to smooth operation of the choke.
Installation Order
- Brass choke tube (guide sleeve)
- Spring
- Alloy air slide
When assembling, the spring is compressed to allow the cable nipple to be hooked into the recess of the air slide
