Triumph specified this lifting handle, or “grab rail” for the 1970 model year only. It is fitted to the 500 and 650 twins, as well as the Trident 750 triple. There have been two versions of this grab rail produced, one version in all chrome, and the other with a black base and chrome top loop, as offered here.
This faithful reproduction grab rail features a black lifting handle and seat rail assembly with a chrome-plated top loop. Although turn signals were not fitted to US-market models for 1970, there are holes in the gussets to allow for retro fitment of turn signal stems. Made in the UK by TJ Wassell.
The grab rail is used when lifting the motorcycle onto its main stand and solidifies the rear frame and mudguard assembly.
The forward stays are mounted to the upper shock absorber bolts, while the rear mounting tabs are attached to the mudguard. It is advisable to loosen the fender bridge and central mounting clip to allow adjustment for the tabs on the grab rail to align with the factory-drilled holes. In some cases, the slotted forward stays may require light filing to assure correct alignment with the shock mounting bolts.Â
Please note: We have carefully fitted one of these grab rails to an original 1970 TR6R and have found the fitment to be correct, although it is helpful to loosen the fender bridge and central mounting clip to allow adjustment for the tabs on the grab rail to align with the factory-drilled holes. In some cases, the slotted stays may require light filing to assure correct alignment with the shock mounting bolts.
