This bolt was used in both of the handlebar mounting systems from the early unit-construction era. Supplied as a clamp-mounting bolt in the 500 and early unit-construction 650 competition models, as well as a pinch-bolt for the “P-clamp” or eyebolt, as fitted to the 650 models through 1969. Check your parts catalog to confirm fitment.
The handlebar mounting bolt is 5/16″-22 TPI BSF x 1-1/8″ and features a domed head and corrosion-resistant zinc plating. Made in the UK.
When fitted to the 500 forks with cast-in handlebar cradles and clamps, a total of (4) bolts are used. The 650 models with eyebolts use a single bolt for each P-clamp, for a total of (2).
The bolts are threaded into the tapped hole through each handlebar eyebolt, or alternatively through each handlebar mounting clamp into the cradle on the upper fork yoke on the 500 and early 650 competition models. A light smear of anti-seize compound on the threads is suggested when installing the bolts.
