Main, Pilot And Needle Carburetor Jets

Main Jets

The main jet draws fuel from the float bowl through the needle jet and into the carburetor’s mixing chamber.

Main carburetor jets use different sized orifices to maintain correct fuel metering at open throttle positions. The larger number of main jet indicates a larger sized orifice for more fuel flow.

The main jet works in concert with the throttle slide cutaway, needle jet and needle to optimize the fuel charge into the cylinder head from the carburetor.

The main jet is threaded into a jet block. Larger orifice sizes allow a greater volume of fuel flow, resulting in a richer mixture.

Pilot Jets

Important for tuning the idle circuit on Amal Premier and Wassell Evolution carburetors. Most Amal Premier & Wassell Evolution Carbs are supplied with #17 Pilot Jets. If you find you need a leaner fuel mixture at idle, you can use a different size jet.

#35 Pilot Jet

The #35 pilot jet is used as a choke jet in the Amal MK2 carburetors that have been converted to the European non-EPA specification for the Triumph T140E and T140D models.

These carburetor jets are applicable to 1978.5-1982 BSA, Norton and Triumph models fitted with Amal MK2 carburetors.

Needle Jets

Riding at High Altitude? We recommend #106 needle jets.
