Triumph fitted a o-ring on the C-range gearbox indicator spindle from 1968-onward in an effort to prevent seeping oil from the gearbox inner cover. May be suitable for fitment to earlier unit-construction models. Also fitted to the tachometer cable adaptor on early unit 500 and 650 models.
The o-ring is made from heat-resistant Viton rubber and has a cross-section of .070″, with an approximate ID of .145″ and OD of .285″.
When fitted to the early B and C-range tachometer adaptor, the o-ring provides a seal between the adaptor body and internal bush. It is also used on the C-range gearshift indicator spindle and sits under the gear indicator pointer.
When used in the tachometer adaptor, the cable and adaptor unit must be removed to disassemble for replacement of the o-ring. The o-ring can also be replaced on the gear indicator spindle by removing the retaining screw for the pointer and lifting the pointer out of the way to access the o-ring.
