When the swinging arm frame debuted for the 1954 model year, a side stand became standard fitment. This spring was fitted to most Triumph models with the welded-foot prop stand through 1967.
The zinc-plated spring measures approximately 5-5/8″ between the insides of the hooks. Made in the UK by TJ Wassell.
This prop stand spring is designed to hold the stand up and out of the way when retracted. A weak or broken spring can allow the stand to drag, causing a safety issue while the motorcycle is ridden.
There are different approaches to fitting a side stand spring, including the use of washers or coins to pre-stretch the spring to allow placement using a hooked tool. The use of eye protection and gloves is recommended while installing the spring.Â
