Also known as “teardrop” or “sausage” mufflers, this matched set of Burgess-type silencers are the correct fitment for the US-market Triumph 650 TR6R and T120R models from 1966-1970. Economically priced, they are the perfect choice for a renovation project where a budget is established.
These reproduction silencers measure 23-1/2″ long and have an inlet ID of 1-1/2″ and inlet OD of 1-5/8″. The mounting bracket bosses are threaded to accept 5/16-24 TPI UNF bolts.
The silencers produce a throaty sound and are nicely finished in chrome. Although intended for the 1966-1970 Triumph TR6R and T120R models, these silencers can be fitted to the earlier unit-construction models with some minor alterations to the mounting arrangement.
The inlets of the silencers fit over the ends of the exhaust pipes and are secured with clamps. There are threaded bosses on the backside of the silencers for the bolts that retain the mounting brackets. It is advisable to loosen the exhaust system while fitting the silencers to allow for adjustments to the alignment prior to tightening down the hardware.
Please note: Due to varying bans on the use of hexavalent chrome in the chroming process, this item will have varying appearance different than OEM standards. Chromers are frequently using trivalent in their processes. “It’s just not the same color. Hexavalent has that clear blue sheen, but trivalent is more grayish and smoky. Trivalent will not replace the look of hexavalent.”
