Also known as “teardrop” or “sausage” mufflers, this matched set of Burgess-type silencers are the correct fitment for the US-market Triumph 650 TR6R and T120R models from 1966-1970. These are top-quality premium silencers and are the perfect choice for a restoration where fit and finish is a priority. Hand made in small production runs, there may be very minor imperfections in materials and plating.
These reproduction silencers measure 23-1/2″ long and have an inlet ID of 1-1/2″ and inlet OD of 1-5/8″. The mounting bracket bosses are threaded to accept the original 5/16-26 TPI CEI bolts. Manufactured in the UK by TJ Wassell.
The silencers produce a throaty sound and are nicely finished in chrome. Although intended for the 1966-1970 Triumph TR6R and T120R models, these silencers can be fitted to the earlier unit-construction models with some minor alterations to the mounting arrangement.
The inlets of the silencers fit over the ends of the exhaust pipes and are secured with clamps. There are threaded bosses on the backside of the silencers for the bolts that retain the mounting brackets. It is advisable to loosen the exhaust system while fitting the silencers to allow for adjustments to the alignment prior to tightening down the hardware.
Please note: Due to varying bans on the use of hexavalent chrome in the chroming process, this item will have varying appearance different than OEM standards. Chromers are frequently using trivalent in their processes. “It’s just not the same color. Hexavalent has that clear blue sheen, but trivalent is more grayish and smoky. Trivalent will not replace the look of hexavalent.” As these are hand made in small batches in the UK the finish varies from set to set. A close examination will find minor imperfections in fit and finish.
THESE ARE HAND MADE IN SMALL RUNS AND AS SUCH THERE MAY BE MINOR IMPERFECTIONS IN MATERIALS AND PLATING.
