Viton-tipped float needles make a superior seal against the needle seat compared to the original plastic float needles found in the early Concentric carburetors. The latest iteration of the Amal Concentric float needle features a lighter weight aluminum body and is specified as original equipment on the 600 and 900 Premier series of carburetors. Not suitable for use on the Amal MKII carburetors.
The genuine Amal alloy float needle is manufactured to exacting standards and is recommended for replacement of the earlier plastic or brass needles when the current “Stay-up” floats are retrofitted to earlier Concentric carburetors. Made in the UK.
Fuel levels in the float bowl are controlled by the opening and closing of the float needle. As the float rises with the ingress of fuel in the float bowl, the float needle closes against the brass seat and maintains the fuel level. The condition of the Viton rubber tip is critical in achieving a reliable seal.
In most cases, float needle replacement can be carried out with the carburetor in situ. The float bowl is fitted to the carburetor with (2) screws which must be removed to withdraw the float bowl assembly. A new gasket is recommended whenever removing the float bowl becomes necessary.Â
