This reproduction battery carrier is suitable for fitment to the Triumph 500 twin cylinder models from 1968 through 1974 and the 1968-1970 650 twins. Finished in a protective gloss black finish. There may be some minor imperfections in the finish due to shelf wear Depending on the level of finish, you desire you may opt to repaint or powdercoat; altogether malleable to fit a variety of years and models.
Sourced from Wassell in the UK, this battery box is constructed from thin sheet metal and is designed to conform to the original factory dimensions, although it can be bent to clear the back side of the oil tank. The mounting tab for the optional 2MC capacitor mounting spring is present on the underside of the battery tray.
The battery carrier is suspended over the front and rear mounting cross straps, which are also an integral part of the oil tank mounting system. Rubber washers and spigot rubbers are used in mounting the support straps, and help to minimize vibration to the battery, along with a battery tray rubber, fitted to the floor of the carrier. The rearward wall of the battery carrier has three slots serving as the anchor for the battery retaining strap.
The battery carrier is supported by the cross straps. The carrier is retained to the rear strap’s stud with a nut, and the front strap uses a spigot nut to capture the battery retaining strap buckle. Care must be taken to make sure the battery carrier is fully seated over the cross straps to keep the fitted battery at the correct height. Fitting sheet metal parts often requires some light fettling to achieve an optimal fit.
