The clutch thrust washer is important as it serves as a buffer between the splined clutch hub and the clutch sprocket, or “clutch basket”. Clutch thrust washers are prone to wear and distortion of the inner diameter due to the forces they are subjected to.
This reproduction thrust washer is constructed to the original dimensions and features a bronze bearing surface and steel backing, as specified by the factory for fitment to the 1970-1983 Triumph twins and 1970-1972 BSA twins. The ID of the washer is 2.014″, the OD is 2.625″, and it is .052″ thick. Made in the UK from LF Harris.
The thrust washer must be sufficiently thick to prevent the clutch hub from interfacing with the backside of the clutch sprocket. When fitted correctly, the bronze bearing side will face the clutch sprocket. It is recommended to replace the thrust washer if there is any doubt about its integrity.
The primary chaincase must be opened up, and the clutch assembly partially disassembled to access the clutch hub and thrust washer. Consult the workshop manual for more detailed instructions for this procedure.
