Barnett clutch plates have long been associated with competition applications, and this new production friction clutch plate is manufactured to the highest quality available. Suitable for use in the 4-spring clutches used in the unit-construction BSA and Triumph single-cylinder models from 1959-1973. Not compatible with the Triumph T20 Cub models. This listing is for (1) or (6) friction clutch plate.

Made in the US, the driving friction clutch plate has a steel body with bonded segments of Corprene, a durable material that offers excellent friction properties and wear resistance. The clutch plate measures .130″ thick across the bonded segments.

The clutch functions to transfer power from the engine to the transmission. The driving plates and plain steel driven plates are alternated within the clutch chainwheel and located by tabs that fit into corresponding grooves in the clutch center and clutch chainwheel. The tabs must be in good condition and free of burrs to allow free lateral movement of the plates. Earlier BSA models used (4) driving plates, while the 1971 and later B25 and B50 models used (5) driving plates, due to a revised clutch chainwheel.

The primary chaincase cover is removed to gain access to the primary drive system. Once the clutch spring nuts are free from the studs, the pressure plate can be removed, allowing access to the clutch plates. A magnet can be useful to help remove stubborn plates. Consult the workshop manual for the complete procedure.
