Plain 1/4″-28 TPI UNF nuts are used throughout British motorcycles from 1969-onward, in many capacities. This single or kit of (6) nuts is ideal for use on the rocker box studs on Triumph B-range engines from 1971-1982. The nut is used on mudguard hardware, rocker box studs, license plate brackets, oil tank mounts, and many other applications beside the chain adjuster jam nut.Â
Finished in a corrosion-resistant zinc plating, the nuts measure 7/16″ across the flats and are 15/64″ thick. Sourced from MCA in the UK.
1/4″-28 TPI UNF nuts are fastened to studs and bolts in many applications on the 1970s-era Triumph, BSA, and Norton motorcycles, including license plate brackets, rear wheel chain adjusters, oil tank mounting pegs, and the aforementioned rocker box studs.
The nut(s) are generally used with a flat or spring washer underneath to protect the finish of the surface the nut is being tightened against. A 7/16 spanner or socket is used to turn the nut. The nut is locked against the chain adjuster once the bolt is correctly set to establish the desired chain tension.
