The clutch thrust washer is important as it serves as a buffer between the splined clutch hub and the clutch sprocket, or “clutch basket”. Clutch thrust washers are prone to wear and distortion of the inner diameter due to the forces they are subjected to.
This premium Kibblewhite thrust washer is constructed of durable US Mill certified C674 bronze material chosen for its anti-friction properties and its resistance to impact, pressure, abrasion and wear. A chamfer is also machined into the inner diameter of the washer, enhancing the fit against the shoulder on the clutch hub and minimizing migration out of position once fitted. Suitable for fitment to the 1963-1969 Triumph twins and 1966-1969 BSA twins. The ID of the washer is 1.837″, the OD is 2.625″, and it is .060″ thick.
The thrust washer must be sufficiently thick to prevent the clutch hub from interfacing with the backside of the clutch sprocket. It is recommended to replace the original thrust washer if there is any doubt about its integrity. When fitted correctly, the chamfered side of the washer will face the clutch hub.
The primary chaincase must be opened up, and the clutch assembly partially disassembled to access the clutch hub and thrust washer. Consult the workshop manual for more detailed instructions for this procedure.
