This unique front brake cable is suitable for the 1971-1973 BSA and Triumph oil-in-frame single and twin-cylinder models, as well as the three-cylinder models fitted with the 8″ conical twin-leading shoe front hub and brake drum assembly.
The cable measures approximately 51″ overall, 41″ sheath length, with an inner wire free-length of 7-1/4″. The front brake switch is an integral part of the cable. Economically priced and heavy-duty construction from Emgo.
The conical front brake plate uses two operating arms with special trunnions, or bushes fitted to each arm, which the cable passes through. The rearward bush is a counterbored abutment for the shouldered ferrule on the cable sheath end, and the front operating arm bush is slotted to anchor the barrel on the end of the wire. A return spring between the two operating arm bushes ensures the arms retract when the brake lever is released.
Special retaining washers are used over the frontward brake operating arm bush to prevent the bush from migrating out of position. A detailed procedure is explained in the factory workshop manual for cable replacement. It is also beneficial to check the adjustments of the Micram adjusters to equalize the caliper action of the cam levers. Refer to the workshop manual to review this process to maximize front brake performance.Â
