G&S Valves Ltd in the UK has been serving the automotive and motorcycle industries since 1946, earning the reputation of one of the highest-quality valve manufacturers worldwide. US-made Kibblewhite manganese bronze valve guides feature a groove that allows the use of valve stem seals and are paired with the V245 inlet and V24 exhaust valves to comprise the set. While considered suitable for the 1964-1978 T120 and T140 models, this set can also be fitted to many of the TR6 and TR7 models from 1966-onward, when the valve and valve seats were standardized for both the TR6 and T120 models. Not recommended as standard fitment for the early unit-construction 6T and TR6 models through 1965. Be sure to check your parts book to determine compatibility with your cylinder head.
The G&S valves are manufactured from high-grade stainless steel and both the inlet and exhaust valves are available in standard or oversized head diameters depending on the fitment requirements. The Kibblewhite valve guides are also supplied in standard .501″ OD and various oversizes up to +.004″. Valve stem seals are optional with the updated design of the guides. Since most unit-construction Triumph 650 cylinder heads are interchangeable, with variances in tappet guide blocks, pushrod tubes, and sealing arrangements, it is possible that a later head can be installed on an earlier cylinder barrel (and vice versa), so head identification is necessary. A casting number will be visible within one or the other rocker box pockets on the cylinder head. A circle with a two-digit number indicates the year the cylinder head was cast, but may apply to more than one model year. It is advisable to remove the valve guides from the cylinder head prior to ordering replacements to allow for inspection of the bores and measurements of the previous guides. This set of valves and guides are suitable fitment for all of the 750 twins from 1973-1978.
As is the case with many advanced service procedures on motorcycle engines with decades of service, careful measurements must be made prior to selecting the optimally sized valves and valve guides. The size and concentricity of the valve guide bores and condition of the valve seats must be considered, and it is strongly advised to consult a professional machinist for accurate measuring and final finishing of the valve guides and valve seats prior to assembly of the valve train components. Consult the factory workshop manual applicable to the cylinder head’s model year for fitment specifications.
