Valve lengths and head diameters vary from the early unit-construction Triumph 500 models with the “squish-band” cylinder heads to the later models with the revised heads to accommodate the larger inlet valves. These Kibblewhite Black Diamond inlet valves are specified for the 1967-1974 T100 models with the “non-squish band” heads. Available in both standard 1.540″ and oversize 1.600″ head diameters.
Kibblewhite Black Diamond inlet valves feature a proprietary impregnated coating to a depth of .002″ that improves wear properties, reduces friction, and provides resistance to corrosion and wear that is superior to traditional nickel-plated valves. Stem diameters are .3105″, overall length is 3.480″ (standard), overall length is 3.500 (oversized), and the tulip radius is 23 degrees.
The inlet valves allow the ingress of the fuel charge to ignite under compression in the combustion chamber. It is critical the valve seats and valve faces make a seal when the valves are closed to maximize compression. The valve stems must have the correct clearance within the valve guides to be properly lubricated and minimize oil consumption.
The rocker boxes and cylinder head must be removed to access the valvetrain. A valve spring compressor is employed to compress the springs far enough to remove the retaining collets from the top collars. Once fitted into the valve guides, the replacement valves will require “lapping-in” to the valve seats. Refer to the factory workshop manual for the complete instructions. Replacing valves is a multi-step procedure and may be best done by a professional machinist.
FROM KIBBLEWHITE All KPMI Black Diamond™ stainless steel valves are impregnated by a special German process to a depth of .002”, with a surface build up of .0002”. This “Black Diamond®” process improves wear properties, reduces friction, and provides resistance to corrosion and wear that is superior to chrome and nickel electrolysis plating. Each valve is designed using Finite Element Analysis software, and profiles are tested on our computerized flow bench. Black Diamond® Valves are light, strong, one piece forgings with profiles that provide excellent flow characteristics.
