We now have an economical 12 volt 9 amp hour conventional lead acid replacement battery to offer for many models of vintage British motorcycles. Dimensions are 137mm length, 75mm width, and 139mm height, making it suitable for most 1966-onward Triumph, BSA, and Norton 12 volt kickstart models with stock battery carriers.
The battery kit is supplied with an acid pack, which must be carefully filled to each cell prior to installation. While the battery is factory dry-charged, a slow charge at 1-2 amps for 2-3 hours is recommended to provide full performance during service. It is important to attach and rout the vent tube downward and away from the engine and exhaust. Installation and use instructions are provided with the battery kit.
The motorcycle’s charging system must be in good working condition to fully realize the high performance of the battery.
The battery is housed in a battery carrier under the seat and usually retained with a strap and buckle. It is important to make sure that the steel seat pan does not come in contact with the battery terminals. Check the seat base to ensure all of the rubber buffers are in place to prevent the seat pan from interfacing with the battery terminals.
