About Andover Norton
Andover Norton’s company history says that when Norton Villiers Triumph (NVT) closed, Dennis Poore bought the spares operation back from the liquidator. In 1977 he set it up in North Way, Andover, Hampshire, as Andover Norton International Ltd. Stock moved down from the Midlands that summer, and the warehouse officially began work on 3 November 1977. Ownership changed several times over the following decades. In October 2019 the company moved back to North Way, across the road from where it started.
The company holds a licence to use the Norton trademark for spare parts, components and assemblies for Norton motorcycles built before 2002. It also says it owns the copyright and design rights for all Norton Dominator and Commando models made before 2002 (Andover Norton). The current company, Andover Norton International Limited, is registered at Unit 6 Wooler Park, North Way, Andover (Companies House).
Andover Norton doesn’t run its own foundry or machine shop. Instead it owns the casting dies, forging tools, assembly jigs and factory drawings, and gives them to specialist suppliers who make parts to its specifications. Most of those suppliers are in the English Midlands. Every part is inspected when it arrives. Where Andover Norton has improved a part, the new version still fits in place of the original (Andover Norton pirate-parts notice).

Vernier-Adjustable Isolastic Kits
The Isolastic system is what made the Commando famous. The engine, gearbox and swinging arm are bolted together as one unit, which is rubber-mounted to the frame so the rider feels much less vibration. The original 1968–1974 design was set up with shims to give 0.006–0.010 inches of side play. For the 1975 Mk3, Norton switched to vernier adjusters, which are set by turning a threaded collar instead.
The front kits are not interchangeable between Mk1/Mk2 and Mk3 models:
- The front vernier Isolastic kit for 1968–1974 Mk1 and Mk2 Commandos — 06-7337 retrofits vernier adjustment to 750 and 850 models with the shorter center tube. It isn’t recommended for the Mk3.
- The front vernier Isolastic kit for the 1975 Mk3 Commando 850 — 06-7116 is a direct replacement for models with the longer center tube. It isn’t recommended for the Mk1 or Mk2.
- The rear vernier Isolastic kit for 1968–1975 Commandos — 06-7117 is listed for all Commando 750 and 850 models. It retrofits the vernier design to 1968–1974 bikes and is a direct replacement on 1975 models.
Each kit comes with the collar adjusting tool and the parts needed to rebuild that mounting. Andover Norton’s frame and chassis technical notes cover the subject in more detail. For related parts, see Norton frame, body and trim, Norton hardware and Norton service tools.
Commando Gasket Sets
Andover Norton gasket sets are sold as kits only; the individual gaskets aren’t sold separately. Each listing names every gasket and seal in the kit, so you can check what’s included before you order.
Complete engine, gearbox and primary sets:
- The Norton Commando 750 complete gasket set with seals, 1968–1973 — 06-3608 CU comes with a copper cylinder head gasket.
- The Norton Commando 850 Mk3 complete gasket set with seals — 06-8099 comes with a composite cylinder head gasket and the Mk3-specific primary-cover and chaincase gaskets.
Top-end sets for the 850 engine:
- The 850 Commando top-end gasket set with copper head gasket — 06-6093 CU.
- The 850 Mk2/Mk3 Commando top-end gasket set, 1973–1975 — 06-6093 comes with a composite, flame-ring head gasket.
The 750 and 850 sets are different. Confirm your engine size and year before ordering. Individual gaskets and seals are in Norton gaskets, and internal engine parts are in Norton engine spares.
Engine Bearings
- The Commando 750/850 big-end bearing shell set, +0.020-inch — 06-4287 G is a set of four connecting-rod shells for 1968–1975 Commandos. Use it only when the crankshaft journals have been reground to suit that undersize.
Measure the journals, or have an engine shop measure them, before choosing a shell size. Andover Norton’s engine technical help is a good starting point.
Rear-Wheel Cush-Drive Rubbers
The cush drive is a set of rubber blocks between the rear sprocket and the wheel hub. It absorbs shocks in the drive train. Commandos from 1971 to 1974 use three thick drive rubbers and three thin rebound rubbers.
- Thick cush-drive rubbers, 1971–1974, set of three — 06-2074 G.
- Thin cush-drive rebound rubbers, 1971–1974, set of three — 06-2075 G.
- The complete cush-drive set, 1971–1974 — 06-2074 G / 06-2075 G has all six rubbers needed for one wheel.
For more, browse Norton rubber spares, Norton wheels, tires and spokes and Norton chains and sprockets.
Fork Boots and Front-End Parts
Fork boots keep dirt off the fork oil seals, so perished boots lead to leaking forks.
- Commando 750/850 rubber fork dust covers, UK-made, pair — 06-1115 UK: slide over the fork tubes and press onto the lower legs.
- Commando 750/850 heavy-duty fork gaiters, pair — 06-5743 G: a tougher option for riders whose standard boots keep perishing.
- The stainless front mudguard for 1972–1974 Commandos — 06-3175 is made to the original beaded-nose, C-section design with a built-in fork bridge, and it also acts as a fork brace. It can replace the earlier chrome guard. You’ll need to drill holes for the stays.
- The front brake master-cylinder switch cover — 06-2524 is the rubber boot used on hydraulic front disc brake Commandos from 1972 on.

Air-Box, Fuel and Exhaust Parts
Mk1/Mk2 and Mk3 Commandos use different air-box arrangements. Check which one you have before choosing rubbers.
- Air-filter-to-carburetor rubbers, pair — 06-2537 G: for 1968–1974 Roadster, Interstate, Fastback and Hi-Rider models.
- Mk3 Commando 850 air-box connector hoses, pair — 06-4180: for 1975-on Mk3 models, with the correct cutaway.
- The Commando 750/850 air-filter backing plate, 1968–1974 — 06-4894 replaces 06-2799 and 06-0815. It comes with a breather vent tube that you can use or block off.
- The Commando 750/850 fuel line assembly, 1973–1975 — 06-5192 arrives ready-made with banjos, fittings and crimped ferrules. It’s for later Mk2 and Mk3 models with stock Amal Concentric carburetors and 1/4-inch BSP fuel taps, and it does not fit Mikuni carburetors.
- Exhaust-pipe locking washers, pair — 06-2412: help protect the exhaust threads in the cylinder head, which are expensive to repair if they strip.
Related categories: Norton oil and air, Norton carburetor and fuel, Amal carburetors and Norton exhaust.
How to Choose the Right Andover Norton Part
- Identify your Commando. Note the model, year, engine size (750 or 850) and whether it’s a Mk1, Mk2 or Mk3. Andover Norton’s parts-by-model drawings, such as the 750 1968–70 and 850 Mk3 pages, show how the assemblies differ by year.
- Confirm the factory part number. Check it in a Norton parts book.
- Check for earlier modifications. Many Commandos have already had Isolastic, carburetor or brake changes, so what’s on the bike may not match the original specification.
- Follow the workshop procedure. See our Norton manuals and the Bonneville Shop Tech Blog.

Andover Norton FAQs
Who is Andover Norton?
Andover Norton International Ltd is the official source of spare parts for Norton motorcycles built before 2002. It was set up in Andover, Hampshire, in 1977, when Norton Villiers Triumph’s spares operation was bought back from the liquidator (Andover Norton).
Are Andover Norton parts genuine Norton parts?
Yes. Andover Norton holds a licence to use the Norton trademark for spare parts for Norton motorcycles built before 2002. It also holds the original factory drawings and tooling (Andover Norton).
Where are Andover Norton parts made?
Specialist suppliers make them to Andover Norton’s drawings, using its tools. Most of those suppliers are in the English Midlands, and every part is inspected when it reaches the warehouse (Andover Norton). Most of the products in our Andover Norton range are listed as UK-made.
How can I tell genuine Andover Norton parts from copies?
Andover Norton says genuine packaging carries its name and address. It introduced a new label in 2016 because its earlier one had been copied (Andover Norton). Its pirate-parts page explains the problem further.
Which front Isolastic kit fits my Commando?
Use 06-7337 for 1968–1974 Mk1 and Mk2 models with the shorter center tube. Use 06-7116 for the 1975 Mk3 with the longer center tube. The two front kits aren’t interchangeable.
Does the rear Isolastic kit fit all Commandos?
The rear kit, 06-7117, is listed for all Commando 750 and 850 models from 1968 to 1975. On 1968–1974 bikes it converts the rear mounting to vernier adjustment, and on 1975 models it’s a direct replacement.
What is a vernier Isolastic, and why upgrade?
Original Isolastics are set to 0.006–0.010 inches of side play using shims. Vernier Isolastics are set by turning a threaded adjusting collar instead, which makes it easier to set the play accurately and to reset it later. Norton made vernier adjusters standard on the 1975 Mk3.
Which Andover Norton gasket set do I need?
For a full 750 rebuild from 1968–1973, use 06-3608 CU. For the 850 Mk3, use 06-8099. For an 850 top-end job only, use 06-6093 (with a composite head gasket, for 1973–1975 Mk2/Mk3) or 06-6093 CU (with a copper head gasket).
Can I buy the gaskets from a set individually?
No. Andover Norton gasket sets are sold only as complete kits. Individual gaskets are in our Norton gaskets category.
What’s the difference between the thick and thin cush-drive rubbers?
On 1971–1974 Commandos, the three thick rubbers (06-2074) are the drive rubbers and the three thin ones (06-2075) are the rebound rubbers. One wheel needs all six, which is why we also sell them as a complete set.
When do I need +0.020 big-end shells?
Only when the crankshaft journals have been reground 0.020 inches undersize. Measure the journals before ordering, because shells that don’t match the journal size will damage the engine.
Does Andover Norton make parts for Atlas, Dominator and other pre-Commando Nortons?
Yes. Andover Norton supplies parts for Commandos and earlier models, including the Dominator, Atlas, P11 and Norton singles. It also holds the factory stock for Norton Rotary models (Andover Norton). Our current Andover Norton range focuses on the Commando; contact us about parts for other models.
Will the 06-5192 fuel line fit a Commando with Mikuni carburetors?
No. It’s designed for stock Amal Concentric carburetors with 1/4-inch BSP fuel taps on later Mk2 and Mk3 Commandos.
Can I find out when my Norton was built?
Andover Norton can supply an extract from the original Norton factory despatch records, printed on its letterhead. You need to give your engine and frame numbers. It has all the pre-Commando records, but the Commando records are incomplete (Andover Norton factory records).
