Many of the reproduction wiring harnesses are supplied with a push-in type of warning light socket, requiring a suitable “wedge” bulb. This bulb is compatible with the push-in warning light sockets.
The wedge base bulb is a glass 2 watt miniature warning light bulb used in place of the original Lucas 281 bulb, as specified on many original wiring harnesses.
The warning light bulb is used with red, green, or amber-colored bezels to differentiate the various functions, such as oil pressure, high-beam selection, and turn signal operation. Most British motorcycles from 1966 use warning lights on the headlamp shell.
The bulb is pushed into the plastic socket. Dielectric grease is recommended to aid in the installation of the bulb and prevents corrosion in the connection.
