The Girling name is a legacy brand that dates back to the 1920s and has long been known for innovation and quality brake parts. A completely new lineup of motorcycle brake components are now available replicating the original equipment as specified for BSA, Norton, and Triumph motorcycles.
The Girling master cylinder barrel and piston assembly represents a significant upgrade with a corrosion resistant stainless steel body and upgraded rubber sealing components. Can be fitted to the front or rear of the original Lockheed hydraulic brakes, as specified on Triumph models from 1973 onward. Also compatible with the rear hydraulic brake fitted to the 1975 Norton MK3 models.
A properly functioning master cylinder barrel and piston assembly is critical to overall performance of the hydraulic brake system. The Girling master cylinder barrel assembly assures accurate fluid transfer to the brake caliper when fitted and adjusted correctly.
With the push rod inserted into the rubber boot, the master cylinder barrel is threaded into the alloy housing until all movement from the operating lever is just eliminated. The barrel is then turned an additional full turn inwards until the flat groove in the threaded end of the cylinder aligns with the hole for the set screw. The push rod adjustment is critical for both the front and rear hydraulic brake systems. Refer to the workshop manual for specific installation instructions.
