This custom steel headlamp shell with a faux carbon fiber veneer is compatible with all British motorcycles from the unit-construction era originally equipped with a Lucas 700 series 7″ glass reflector. This headlamp shell offers a unique touch to the custom build.Â
The headlamp shell is similar to the SS700P Lucas headlamp shell, as fitted to the Norton Commando MK3 , and 1979 and later Triumph T140 models, with no warning light or ammeter holes, but with only one grommet hole in the underside. Supplied complete with chrome 7″ headlamp retaining rim, (4) wire rim clips, rim fixing clip and screw, 3-prong socket for the 410 bulb, and the rubber reflector seal.
Although the accessories included are compatible with the 410-type bulb and reflector, a BPF headlamp glass reflector unit will fit in this shell, as fitted to the earlier 1960s and 1970s British motorcycles. If desired, holes can be drilled for warning lights, lighting switch, or an ammeter.
The headlamp shell is installed using 5/16-24 UNF bolts and spacers, as fitted originally. An 862217 rubber grommet is ideal for the ingress of the wiring in the shell. The glass reflector is retained to the rim with wire clips, and the rim fixing clip and screw secure the rim and glass assembly to the shell. Once fitted to the front end, it is important to aim the light beam to the correct adjustment before locking down the mounting bolts.
