The seat latch system found on the 1971-1972 BSA and Triumph 650 models is unique and employs a leaf spring and pivoting lever to lock down the latch when the seat is closed.
The seat latch is a pivoting lever mounted directly to the frame bracket. The retaining wire captures the hooked tab on the dual seat to lock the seat in the closed position.
The seat latch assembly is designed to work with the hooked end of the tab on the seat pan, allowing the seat to be lifted and lowered when accessing the battery compartment and coil tray.
The spring and seat latch are fitted to the frame mount with a single screw and nut.
