We have assembled this service kit to address leaking forks on the 1971 through 1977 Triumph and BSA models with the aluminum fork lowers, as fitted to the 250 and 500 single-cylinder models, 650 twins, and 750 Triples. Not compatible with the Triumph 500 twins fitted with drum brakes.
Part numbers included in this kit are:
- (2) 97-3893
- (2) 97-4001
- (2) 97-4002
- (2) 97-4003
- (2) 97-4004
All of the necessary sealing washers, o-rings, oil seals, and dust wipers are included in this service kit. Rubber seals and wipers can degrade over time and this kit includes everything to perform a complete fork service. While most of the parts in this kit are compatible with 1978 and later models, the fork oil seals are different and are offered under part number 97-7079.
When the fork is disassembled it is prudent to evaluate the condition of the fork stanchion tubes to confirm straightness, the absence of any wear to the hard chromed finish or corrosion. Any form of compromise to the finish of the stanchions can lead to premature wear to the fork oil seals. The provided dust wiper sleeves prevent contamination to the fork internals.
The front wheel and mudguard must be removed to facilitate removal of the fork legs. Refer to the factory workshop for complete fork overhaul procedures.
