This tool is designed to simplify the task of properly timing, or “indexing” the shift quadrant to the camplate on the 5-speed Triumph transmissions. Failure to properly time the transmission components will result in “false neutrals” and a loss of shifting performance.
The indexing tool is a plate with a dummy spindle to fit in the shifter spindle bushing and a small tip that locates in the appropriate notch on the gearchange quadrant. A peg on the back of the plate holds the tool stationary when located in the drilling on the cover.
Manufactured from high-quality steel, this indexing tool takes the guess work out of transmission timing by holding the gearchange quadrant in place when offering the inner gearbox cover to the gearbox housing.
When the correct position for proper indexing is established, the tool is fitted and locked into place, preventing the position from changing when the inner gearbox cover is fitted. Consult the factory workshop manual for complete transmission assembly procedures.Â
