The timing cover blanking plug is necessary to seal the threaded hole created for drilling the oil passage inside the cover during the manufacturing process. This plug can be removed to fit an oil pressure gauge in the port.
The plug is a 3/8″-26 TPI CEI bolt that is used to blank off the oil way hole on early unit-construction Triumph 650 timing covers prior to the introduction of oil pressure switches. Not compatible with the 1969-onward timing covers threaded to NPT and NPS, for use with oil pressure switches. Made in the UK by LF Harris.
The plug is threaded into the timing cover aperture and sealed with a copper washer. It is critical that the threads are correct for this application, as oil is pressure fed through the passage in the timing cover.
