This slightly oversized kickstart cotter pin is used when there is a worn kickstart spindle or a deformed hole in the kickstart arm, and the standard pin will not engage tightly.
Oversized kickstart cotter pin replaces 57-4356 on worn kickstart spindle and kickstart arm on BSA and Triumph 650/750 models, as well as many singles from the 1960s and 70s.
The cotter pin is responsible for coupling the kickstart arm to the kickstart spindle.
It is driven in by aligning the wedge with the flat cutout section on the spindle.
