The tappet inspection plug allows access with a feeler gauge to measure tappet clearance from the side of the rocker box.
The tappet clearance plug is located on each side of both rocker boxes. The plug can be removed, allowing easy access to each rocker adjusting pin for clearance measuring. The plug is sealed with a copper crush washer.
The plug is unique to the 1971-1974 Triumph 500 and 650 models. The copper sealing washer is recommended to be replaced after each removal of the plug.
The plug is threaded into the aperture on the side of the rocker box with the special sealing washer underhead. The plug is made of soft metal and care should be taken to not overtighten it.
