This simple top-dead center (TDC) finding tool is ideal for static ignition timing magneto-equipped and early coil ignition models with no provision for strobe-timing. Fits into a 14mm spark plug hole making it useful for most vintage British motorcycle cylinder heads.
The body of the plunger tool features a knurled surface for a positive grip. O-rings are supplied to prevent the plunger from falling into the combustion chamber, and also for making depth measurements on the plunger to establish piston position at TDC and BTDC.
The tool threads into the spark plug hole on the cylinder head and accurately displays piston movement. Can be used with a timing wheel to find the correct piston position to set ignition firing at the fully advanced position between TDC and BTDC. May also be useful for checking camshaft timing and other applications.
The spark plug(s) must be removed to allow engine rotation without compression. The tool is threaded into the spark plug hole and once the piston rises towards the top of the cylinder bore, the crown of the piston pushes the plunger upwards to top dead center.Â
