The balance tube between each exhaust pipe was adopted in the early 1970’s for the Norton 850 models. It was discovered that the crossover pipe not only resulted in a quieter exhaust note, but allowed the use of free-flowing silencers, effectively contributing to an increase of power. We are offering the balance tube along with a pair of the original-style connectors in this kit. Suitable fitment for the 1973-1975 Roadster, Hi-Rider, and Interstate models.

The reproduction balance tube and clamps are chrome plated and sourced from TJ Wassell in the UK. The balance tube is approximately 5-1/4″ in length and has an OD of 1-3/8″. The connecting clamps are not supplied with hardware.

In addition to the noise reduction and performance benefits, the crossover tube also stabilizes the exhaust system where the exhaust header pipes exit the cylinder head.

The exhaust pipes are loosely assembled to the cylinder head with the balance tube and clamps in place, then the locking rings are tightened and retained with the tab washers. Once the entire exhaust system, including the silencers, is loosely fitted, the hardware can be tightened once alignment adjustments are made.
