BSA fitted this type of adjustable steering stem sleeve nut to many common models of telescopic forks from the post-war era through 1968, including single-cylinder and twin-cylinder models such as M20, B32, B34, A7, A10, A50, and A65.
Finished in zinc-plating, the sleeve nut is approximately 2″ in length, with an OD of 1-5/16″ and has 26 TPI CEI threads. Made in the UK by TJ Wassell.
The steering stem sleeve nut is used to adjust the pre-load on the steering head bearings and is threaded directly onto the end of the steering stem. A chrome top cap is then fitted to the castellated top of the sleeve nut to finish the assembly.
The steering damper, if fitted, must be removed to allow access to the sleeve nut. Slots are cut into the top of the sleeve nut to allow rotation of the nut using a suitable cross bar. Refer to the factory workshop manual for service details.
