Properly functioning condensers are critical for maximizing the service life of contact breaker points in the ignition system. The 425377 condenser is a reproduction of the original Lucas condenser used with the 4CA contact breaker points on many BSA and Triumph single and twin-cylinder models through 1967. This listing is one or multiple condensers.
The genuine Lucas 425377 condenser is mounted on the Lucas 4CA points plate and is grounded by the tab for the mounting screw. There is a fork on the mounting plate designed to hold the felt wick for lubricating the auto-advance unit cam.
Alternatively referred to as a capacitor, the condenser momentarily stores current when the contact breaker points open, allowing the magnetic field in the coil to collapse and produce a high voltage in the secondary winding of the coil, resulting in a bright spark at the spark plug.
The condenser is secured to the points plate with a grounding screw. The contact breaker spring and wire lead is attached to the stud on the end of the condenser. Fitting instructions are detailed in the factory workshop manuals for each appropriate model.
