To use an o ring with the gearbox sprocket you must have a high gear spline grooved for the o ring as well as the chamfered sprocket. Oring will demand the correct locking washer for nut. If spline is grooved put sealant on sprocket splines. Push on sprocket, install o ring. Locking washer with splines facing outwards, then nut. Torque & bend tabs. The o ring helped to reduce leaks, but it often still took sealant to actually stop all leaks.
DO NOT use o ring without the matching o ring groove in high gear spline.
It is fine & safe to use chamfered sprocket on earlier non grooved shaft.
