This premium clutch cable is suitable for use on the 1963-1967 Triumph 650 twins with stock US-specification handlebars. May also be suitable for fitment to some Triumph 500 models with “western bend” handlebars fitted.
Barnett cables are regarded as some of the finest cables available for vintage British motorcycles and are manufactured to original specifications in the US. This cable is supplied with a separate slotted swivel for fitment to the nipple on the handlebar end of the cable. The overall length is 55-1/2″, with a sheath length of 52″ and an inner wire free length of 3″.
The cable is the link between the control lever on the handlebar and the clutch actuator inside the outer gearbox cover. When the control lever is pulled in, the cable pulls the clutch actuator operating arm upward, disengaging the clutch to allow gear selection. It is important that the correct slotted ferrule adaptor is included in the installation of the cable to the abutment on the outer gearbox cover.
The slotted swivel is fitted to the handlebar end of the cable, and is captured by the control lever with the wire fed through the slotted adjuster and locking nut. With the adjuster on the control lever fully collapsed, the cable is routed through the slotted adaptor and abutment on the outer gearbox. The pear-shaped end is captured by the connector that passes through the outer timing cover. It is advisable to pay close attention to the routing of the cable to avoid adding unnecessary friction to the movement of the inner wire.
