Although the outer gearbox gasket was originally specified for the 1976-onward 5-speed 750 models, it can be fitted to the cover on the earlier unit-construction 650 models with either 4 or 5-speed transmissions.
This genuine Cov-Seal gasket is designed to be fitted dry, without any gasket sealant. The N-8092 gasket material is constructed from a reinforced cellulose fiber with a nitrile rubber binder. It offers excellent sealing properties with oil and fuel. Made in the US.
The gasket allows for a superior seal between the outer and inner gearbox covers and is generally accepted as common practice to use on the earlier unit-construction gearboxes in place of liquid sealants.
The outer gearbox cover is separated from the gearbox by removing the retaining screws and carefully withdrawing the cover, taking care to hold the kickstarter lever to prevent sudden unwinding of the return spring. Prior to re-fitting the cover, all traces of previous gasket material and sealant must be removed from the mating surfaces of the inner and outer covers.
