This authentic set of the iconic “Garden Gate” petrol tank emblems are intended for fitment to the various Triumph twin-cylinder models specified with the 3 gallon tank, the majority being US-export models from 1958-1965. Not recommended for fitment to the T20 Cub models or models fitted with the larger 4 gallon petrol tank, although they are suitable fitment for 1959 T120 models with the 4 gallon tank. This listing is for a matching set of left-hand and right-handed emblems.
The emblems are finished in chrome and will require hand-painting, if desired. The retaining screw holes are 4-7/16″ on centers for each emblem. Made in the UK and sourced from LF Harris. This style of tank badges are commonly known as the “Garden Gate” or “Mouth Organ” emblems.
The correct petrol tank emblems are an important aesthetic when completing a restoration. These emblems are fitted to the 3 gallon Triumph tank in addition to a pair of styling strips on each side of the tank.
Small countersunk 2BA screws are used to fasten the emblems to the petrol tank on each side. It is advisable to chase the threads of the screw holes with a 2BA tap, when available, to remove paint and corrosion prior to fitting the emblems.
Please note: Due to varying bans on the use of hexavalent chrome in the chroming process, this item will have varying appearance different than OEM standards. Chromers are frequently using trivalent in their processes. “It’s just not the same color. Hexavalent has that clear blue sheen, but trivalent is more grayish and smoky. Trivalent will not replace the look of hexavalent.” The chrome may also begin to lift from place.
