Norton Commando models were equipped with a spin-on oil filter system as standard factory equipment from mid-1972 through 1975. This kit is comprised of the mounting block and replaceable oil filter canister. Can be fitted to earlier Commando models to improve oil filtration.
Sourced from Wassell in the UK, this kit features the original-type mounting block and automotive-style oil filter. The inlet and outlet tubes are 3/8″ OD. Mounting hole are tapped for 5/16″-24 TPI UNF bolts and are spaced 1-1/4″ apart. The filter assembly together measures 4-1/4″ tall and 3-1/8″ wide. The mounting bolts and associated hardware are not included in the kit.
While this reproduction oil filter kit is designed for fitment to the Norton Commando models, it can also be retrofitted to other makes of motorcycles where a remote oil filter is desired. Ideal for motorcycles with dry sump and separate oil tanks. The mounting block is spliced into the oil return line from the oil pipe junction block to the oil tank.
The oil filter system is mounted to the engine cradle at the rear of the gearbox. The original fitment of the mounting block was under the swinging arm, but alternative mounting positions are possible on other applications, provided the mounting surface is flat.
