Commonly known as the ‘Superblend’, the main roller bearing was fitted to both the timing-side and drive-side on Norton Commando models after 1971, although many earlier engines have been retrofitted to the roller bearings on both crankshaft journals.
The FAG Superblend main bearing is a roller bearing featuring cylindrical rollers with a tapered edge, designed to help cope with crank flex, as was experienced in the tuned Combat models. This bearing is specified with C3 clearance and has a brass cage. Made in India.
The bearings support the crankshaft on both ends and are subject to heavy loads due to the power output of the large displacement Norton twin cylinder engine. The Superblend bearing is designed for long service life under demanding conditions.
The inner race is fitted to the crankshaft journal. The outer race and bearing assembly is installed into the crankcase half and locates the crankshaft when the inner race is inserted into the bearing assenbly. Engine building is an intricate process and should only be carried out according to the procedures outlined in the workshop manual.
A note on bearing clearances: We offer these bearings in both CN (tighter) and C3 (looser) clearance fits. As there is no “correct” or “one size fits all” solution as to which main bearings you should fit, we highly recommend doing as much research on the subject prior to purchase.
Please note: Due the nature of the product, we unfortunately do not accept returns on bearings, service tools or electrical components. Please be confident about your purchase before ordering. If you have questions, please contact us.
