Lucas Kill Switch 31071
The Lucas SS5-type “normally open” cutout switch was originally specified for the Triumph and BSA twin-cylinder competition models with AC Magneto ignition. Housed in a prominent chrome cup, the 31071 version has a black pushbutton, distinguishing it from the other SS5 cutout switch 35601, arranged with “normally closed” function and brown push button.
Featuring a hard plastic black cutout button, this SS5 type Lucas kill switch 31071 is a faithful reproduction of the original switch, intended for use only with the “Energy Transfer” models with battery-less ignitions. Not recommended for use with models that have been converted to modern electronic ignition.
The cutout switch has (2) wiring terminals designed to connect the ET ignition coil primaries together when the kill button is pressed, resulting in the loss of function to the ignition.
The cutout switch is captured in a large handlebar-mounted housing, which must be removed from the handlebar to access the switch for replacement. Two clips joined with a screw retain the housing to the handlebar. The wire leads can be accessed once the switch is removed from the housing.
