If you’re fighting a slipping clutch or a lever pull that feels like a hand workout, this economic 7‑plate conversion is the practical fix that delivers real results without paying “full kit” pricing. It increases total clutch friction area by adding a 7th friction plate, helping the clutch hold better—and because the pack grips more effectively, many riders can run lighter springs for a smoother, easier pull.
What you get
- 7 friction plates
- 1 additional plain steel plate (you’ll reuse your existing 6 plain steel plates to complete the stack)
Fitment
- Triumph unit 650/750 twins: 1963–1982
- Triumph unit 500 twins: approx. 1966–1974
- BSA twins: A50 & A65, 1966–1972
- Requires a 3‑spring clutch
Why this is the “economic” option
This value version focuses on the wear items that matter most (the friction stack), while letting you reuse serviceable original steels to keep cost down. If your steels are grooved, heat-spotted, or warped, plan on replacing them during installation for best results.
Install notes
No modifications are required—this is a straightforward plate swap that keeps your existing clutch hardware and steel plate set in service. For riders chasing the lightest lever pull, many pair a 7‑plate conversion with lighter clutch springs, since the added friction area helps reduce the tendency to slip.
When installed properly with lighter clutch springs PN# 57-1560 you’ll have less hand cramping, less slippage and way more riding enjoyment! Utilizes existing 6 steel clutch plates which we stock as well if yours are worn.
We have a premium version as well TBS-0213.
