Barnett clutch springs are shot-peened and heat-treated for maximum service life and top performance. Suitable for use in unit-construction BSA and Triumph 650 and 750 3-spring clutches. Can also be fitted to the unit Triumph 500 twins, when a higher spring rate is desired. This listing is for a set of (3) clutch springs.
Quality manufactured in the US, this set of premium clutch springs are made to the dimensions of an overall length of 1.75″, width of .650″, and a wire thickness of .100″. There are 8 working coils with the ends ground flat for ease in adjusting in both directions.
The clutch springs are housed in separate spring cups in the pressure plate. Their purpose is to provide engagement of the clutch plates when the transmission is in gear, transferring power from the engine to the transmission. When properly tensioned, they allow the pressure plate to raise evenly during clutch disengagement. Poorly made or worn clutch springs can contribute to clutch slipping and a loss of power to the rear wheel.
The primary chaincase cover is removed to gain access to the primary drive system. Once the clutch spring nuts are free from the studs, the clutch springs can be removed. Once replaced, the springs will require even tension from the special clutch spring nuts, then the pressure plate will have to be trued to lift evenly by individually adjusting the tension of each clutch spring. The procedure is described in detail in the factory workshop manual.Â
