This bearing retaining ring is suitable for use on various Triumph and BSA models specified with the full-width front hub. Situated on the right side of the hub, this ring locks down the bearing against an abutment ring in the bore and also serves as a grease retainer.
Sourced from LF Harris in the Uk and manufactured to original specifications, this ring features LH threads and measures approximately 1-1/8″ ID and 1-15/16″ OD. The holes for the pin spanner measure approximately 1-9/16″ across the centers.
It is important to properly secure the bearing in the bore of the hub. A special pin spanner is used to loosen and tighten the retaining ring to the correct depth in the bore. It is not recommended to use a hammer and chisel to remove or install the ring as it will likely cause damage to the face of the ring.
The front wheel must be completely removed from the fork assembly to access the bearing ring. Once the wheel is free from the fork, the brake plate can be removed for wheel bearing service. Refer to the factory workshop manual for details on the procedure.
