This tapered steering head bearing kit allows retrofitting of the later oil-in-frame fork with the 3/4″ steer tube to the pre-1971 Triumph 500 and 650 frames originally specified with the steel fork lowers and 1″ steer tube.
The 4-piece kit includes both upper and lower bearings and tapered races. The top bearing is supplied with the integrated dust cover. Timken-type tapered bearing cones measure approximately 3/4″ID. The bearing cup has an ID 3/4″ and an OD 2.1″.
Steering head bearings play a critical role in providing smooth handling and safe operation of the motorcycle. Tapered steering bearings are a logical and economical upgrade when servicing vintage forks on your Triumph twin.
The fork assembly must be removed from the frame to perform the steering head bearing conversion. Once the conversion to the later fork assembly and conical or disc brake front hub is complete, it can be expected that cables, brake hoses and other related parts will need to be evaluated.Â
