The thin 3/8-24 TPI Philidas nut is of the locking variety. Used in various locations on British motorcycles including Triumph, Norton and BSAs from 1969-1982.
The nut has a locking feature designed to prevent vibration-induced loosening, or in applications where the part pivots and cannot be fully locked down, such as on a side stand or brake caliper mount.
